Since we are getting ready to leave for Yosemite, I figured I would post this early since I will be gone . . .
How your baby's growing:
Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
Note: Every baby develops a little differently — even in the womb. Our information is designed to give you a general idea of your baby's development.
How your life's changing:
In the past few weeks, the top of your uterus has risen above your belly button and is now about the size of a soccer ball.

Summer and swelling has arrived
Well summer is officially here! Every year, the last weekend in June we have our local rodeo. Every year without fail it seems to be the HOTTEST weekend ever to remind us that it is indeed summer. This past weekend was certainly no different. Thankfully the grandstands are covered, however the back area where the contestants (Steve) have to wait is not. Although they did seem to have "breezes" back there.
Along with the heat has come swelling. BOY OH BOY! My feet seem to really be enjoying the heat and swelling ever so lovely pretty much on a daily basis. Thankfully nothing else is swelling, well aside from my stomach . . . yet!
Some of you have asked if I am "showing" in which I pretty much laugh at being that I am almost technically 7 months now. Here is a picture of my best friend, Janin, and I at the rodeo this last weekend. As you can see I am definitely "showing". I am 23 weeks and 2 days in this picture, taken 6/27/09.
Ryan seems to be moving a LOT although I am still the only one who has seen or felt him. He seems to be laying really low also which could be part of the reason. I'm not sure if he is still transverse or not but it wouldn't shock me with the feelings that I get when he moves around.
Thursday we are headed to Yosemite to do some relaxing and camping and I can not wait to get away!

23 Weeks . . .
How your baby's growing: Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With his sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that he's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see him squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in his lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing his for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze his when he hears them outside the womb.
See what your baby looks like this week.

How your life's changing: You may notice that your ankles and feet start to swell a bit in the coming weeks or months, especially at the end of the day or during the heat of summer. Sluggish circulation in your legs — coupled with changes in your blood chemistry that may cause some water retention — may result in swelling, also known as edema. Your body will get rid of the extra fluid after you have your baby, which is why you'll pee frequently and sweat a lot for a few days after delivery. In the meantime, lie on your left side or put your feet up when you can, stretch out your legs when you sit, and avoid sitting — or standing — in one place for long periods. Also, try to exercise regularly to increase circulation, and wear support stockings (put them on first thing in the morning) and roomy, comfortable shoes. You may be tempted to skimp on liquids to combat swelling, but you need to drink plenty of water because staying hydrated actually helps prevent fluid retention. While a certain amount of edema in your lower extremities is normal during pregnancy, excessive swelling may be a sign of a serious condition called preeclampsia. Be sure to call your midwife or doctor if you have severe or sudden swelling of your feet or ankles, more than slight swelling of your hands, swelling in your face, or puffiness around your eyes.

Busy weekend . . .
We had a great busy weekend this past weekend.
Friday I was able to get my hair done, I had put it off for 15 weeks so it was needing some attention. I was still a tad swollen from Thursday's swelling bout but nothing too bad. Mom and I went to Target to try and buy one of those foot spa things to soak my tootsies. Well to my surprise they are a "seasonal" item only sold at Christmas. SERIOUSLY? Don't people want pretty feet in summer too? Strange I thought.
Saturday our great friends Jake and Robin came for a visit with their 2 beauties, Alyssa and Amanda. Amanda was born at the end of March so this was our first time meeting her since they live in Colorado. What a cutie! And still has that perfect C-section head! Robin came with about 3-4 garbage bags full of clothes for me and Ryan. Needless to say we are pretty set for a while. (THANK YOU AGAIN ROBIN!!) Alyssa was DYING to ride BJ, our 30 year old horse, so she got to take a little ride on him and the entire time I don't think her smile left her face. After that we had some lunch and then headed out to Monterey. We were a bit skeptical due to the not so great weather but lucky for us we got there and it was beautiful! YIPPEE! We started at the wharf and as we were walking up Alyssa pointed out that she "thought she got her face painted here once." Sure enough! Last year when they were out and we went to Monterey she had her face painted. Man the things kids don't forget! Oh, she is 4 by the way! After walking around there for a bit we headed to Cannery Row for dinner at Bubba Gumps. Still not overly impressed but they had a Cookie Sundae (kinda the same thing as a Pizookie for your BJ fan's) and boy was it YUMMMMMY!
Sunday, Father's Day, was a bit mellow. Steve went off to ride and I think I got in about 3 naps. It was LOVELY! In the afternoon as we were sitting in the living room I got a nice little sharp "pain", pretty positive it was a braxton hicks contraction. Steve got "worried" and said that his father's intuition was telling him we needed to go to the hospital. How cute is he?? We didn't go. Everything is fine, only a few of them happened and its pretty normal to start feeling them around now . . or so I'm told. . . I don't remember having them with Breanna.

22 weeks . . .
How your baby's growing:At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.

On another note, I had an appt Monday with Dr. G and she gave me the thumbs up for our trip to Yosemite over the 4th! I did get strict instructions to not "over do it" and to stay fully hydrated. IF I start to get crampy I need to drink more water, lay down and if the cramping does not subside I need to go to a lower elevation. The spot where we will be is at about 8600 ft. I have no doubt in my mind that Pokey and I will both be fine!
She said everything looks great, I still have not gained, and my blood pressure is great! (115/62) My blood counts continue to be good for my gestational diabetes and I am still only testing three days a week. I need to go in for some more blood work around week 24 and then I go back to see her July 13th.
Ryan's bedding got delivered last week so I am very excited about that. We have also decided that since Ryan is getting a new room, Breanna gets a new room as well. She has chosen to go with a Purple/Black/White theme she found from the Seventeen line. (I always thought that was a magazine, never knew they had their own line. Sure goes to show you what I know!) Its definitely different from the Hawaiian theme she has now, guess that means "my first baby" is growing up.
So as you can see things seem to be moving right along. Lots of tummy action and a definite wish for a daily afternoon nap still occurring too.
