31 Weeks . . .

How your baby's growing:
This week, your baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He's probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby's kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy.

Note: Every baby develops a little differently — even in the womb. Our information is designed to give you a general idea of your baby's development.

How your life's changing:
Have you noticed the muscles in your uterus tightening now and then? Many women feel these random contractions — called Braxton Hicks contractions — in the second half of pregnancy. Often lasting about 30 seconds, they're irregular, and at this point, they should be infrequent and painless. Frequent contractions, on the other hand — even those that don't hurt — may be a sign of preterm labor. Call your practitioner immediately if you have more than four contractions in an hour or any other signs of preterm labor: an increase in vaginal discharge or a change in the type of discharge (if it becomes watery, mucus-like, or bloody — even if it's pink or just tinged with blood); abdominal pain or menstrual-like cramping; an increase in pressure in the pelvic area; or low back pain, especially if you didn't have it before.

You may have noticed some leaking of colostrum, or "premilk," from your breasts lately. If so, try tucking some nursing pads into your bra to protect your clothes. (And if not, it's certainly nothing to worry about; your breasts are making colostrum all the same, even if you don't see any.) If your current bra is too snug, you might also want to pick up a nursing bra. Choose a nursing bra at least one cup size bigger than you need now. When your milk comes in you'll be grateful for that extra room!

Ryan getting ready for a growth spurt . . . based on last weeks appt I think he already did this. They told me on the 10th that he was about 16inches and 3lbs and since I was measuring 3 WEEKS ahead hopefully this was his grown spurt and he is not continuing to have additional spurts. Don't get me wrong, I don't by any means want him to be too small, but lets be real people I am only 5'3"! And I would like to be able to have him wear the newborn size clothes he has in his closet at least once. LOL

Last week I read a post online about "You know you are in the 3rd trimester when . . . " It pretty much had me laughing so hard I had tears. The one that stuck out the most to me was "You know your in the 3rd trimester when, your thighs run into your calfs" Cankles is the term heard most I believe. Yep thats me, one big, well I guess 2, sausage legs carrying me and Ryan around. For those of you that I will be seeing this weekend, I apologize in advance.

On another note . . . 22 days left until I am out of work WOOHOO!!

An "official" 8th grader . . . and some other pics

Well today was Breanna's first day of 8th grade and she survived, barely but she did. She was slightly disappointed to find out that none of her friends are in her class, mom on the other hand was not so disappointed. She was not sure what to think of the teacher they posted her with, in the past she has been a Kindergarten teacher so this is her first year teaching 8th graders. Can you say quite a jump?

I drove her to school this morning and before I could even completely turn into the driveway she had the door open and was trying to get out. Ummm hello little Miss Teenager there are cars behind me trying to get in the same driveway. OY! I made her take the bus home, which mind you drops her off at the end of our driveway! She was way less than thrilled and even threw a small fit on Sunday about this. I told her she needed to take it so the bus would know that it needed to stop there Tuesday morning to pick her up since I would be at work and not able to drive her. Well she gets out of school at 3pm and she did not get dropped off until 4:30pm! Yep 90 minutes on the bus when we live 1 block (which is also 1 mile) away from her school. Needless to say she was a tad, oh ummmm lets see . . . GRUMPY when she finally got home. Oh well she survived.

First day of school and already has homework in Geomotry. I guess that is what happens when you are taking advanced classes in 8th grade. She informed us that next year when she is in high school (GULP) she will start out in Advanced Algebra 2. SIGH . . . good thing Papa is good at math! She also gave ME homework! Seriously? I'm the mom, there is a reason I am not in school anymore! I had to fill out this paper that let her teacher know 2 strengths (including examples!) and also something that I think she can improve on. Seriously is this a job interview? "What do you think your strengths and weaknesses are and why" I wanted very badly to say how one great strength was her texting ability but figured I better not so I was good and wrote positive things.

Every year on the first day of school, like most moms, I take her picture. Of course she HATES this but I still insist. Here are a few pictures from this morning.

Also, here are a few pictures that Janin took from our ultrasound trip last week. . .

Heading out to the hall to do my "marching" to get Ryan to change positions

Breanna "comparing" our tummy sizes . . . not much difference you think?

Breanna helping me march down the hallway - pretty sure she was just making fun of me having to do this

Let the shower's begin

This past Thursday my work chickas threw me a lovely shower! Ryan is going to be one very spoiled little boy, this I can tell already.

We got a bunch of great gifts that consisted of clothes, a mini diaper bag, a car seat bundle cover, sports theme pillows and some other items.

Here are a few pictures to enjoy. I will spare your eyes and not post too many of myself. I look GINORMOUS, even though I have not gained much, I am feeling very very large these days, amazing that I still have 2 months left! Mom tells me pretty much daily "I think you've popped out more", apparently by the looks of these pictures I'm not just popping out in my tummy LOL

30 weeks . . .

How your baby's growing:
Your baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and he weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds him, but that volume will decrease as he gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. His eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after he's born, he'll keep his eyes closed for a good part of the day. When he does open them, he'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means he can only make out objects a few inches from his face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

Note: Every baby develops a little differently — even in the womb. Our information is designed to give you a general idea of your baby's development.

How your life's changing:
You may be feeling a little tired these days, especially if you're having trouble sleeping. You might also feel clumsier than normal, which is perfectly understandable. Not only are you heavier, but the concentration of weight in your pregnant belly causes a shift in your center of gravity. Plus, thanks to hormonal changes, your ligaments are more lax, so your joints are looser, which may also contribute to your balance being a bit off. Also, this relaxation of your ligaments can actually cause your feet to spread permanently, so you may have to invest in some new shoes in a bigger size.

Remember those mood swings you had earlier in pregnancy? The combination of uncomfortable symptoms and hormonal changes can result in a return of those emotional ups and downs. It's normal to worry about what your labor will be like or whether you'll be a good parent. But if you can't shake the blues or feel increasingly irritable or agitated, talk to your doctor or midwife. You may be among the 1 in 10 expectant women who battle depression during pregnancy. Also let your caregiver know if you're frequently nervous or anxious.

Happy Birthday to Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

So yesterday was my big 3-5 and I had a very big day planned for myself. . . I took the day off, told both moms that I wanted to have a "girls lunch" for my birthday. Mom, Brea and I left to go pick up Sandy and headed off to "Applebees" for lunch. I happened to "miss" the driveway and then let them in on a little secret. . . I was surprising them with a 4D Ultrasound! Mom of course screamed, Brea was not sure what to think because she was STARVING, and Sandy just kind of sat there in shock. I had also invited Janin to join us so it was a special day for all. We go in for the appt and at first this little boy was not cooperating, go figure couldn't be MY son! He was laying so his face was towards my back and all we got to see was his spine. So she had me do some, well um, "exercises" to see if we could get him to move around.

First she had me get on my elbows and knees . . . mind you I am 29 weeks pregnant so I'm SURE this looked fabulous! Of course Janin couldn't resist and busted out her camera - great friend! The tech had me stay like that for a few min then came back, took another look and nada. So then she had me get up and go "march" down the hallway doing knee-ups. . . you guessed it, didn't really work. Back up on all 4's, turned a LITTLE bit but not enough. Back out in the hall to march again . . . except this time I ran up and down the stairs and jumped up and down as well, which pretty much scared Janin and Breanna a little. . . BUT IT WORKED! Well, it worked after she had me lay on my right side. He finally moved and we got some GREAT shots! I can not express how surreal it was to see him so clearly. Both moms were crying, Breanna was a typical teen and laughing at them and rolling her eyes I'm sure, not sure about Janin but I'm sure there were a few tears and of course I had a few. Here are a few photos from the big surprise:

I also took my little Flip Video camera and here is a shot of the tech pointing out that Ryan currently does have hair . . . hence my raging heartburn if the old wives tales are true . . . it will be interesting to see how much and what color when he comes out. Steve had blonde hair with curls when he was little so you never know.

After the surprise, we did end up at Applebee's for lunch, then I had to rush off to my drs appt. Dr G was on vacation so I saw one of the NP's that I have seen before. The MA had asked me if I was having any contractions yet and I said no just a few braxton hicks . . . well she seemed "surprised" by this and said "ok well we are going to have her check you" . . . ummmmm excuse me????

So the NP comes in and asks me about them and I said that they were not totally regular and I really was not concerned. She said she wanted to check me just in case . . . lovely. Thankfully I am still "high" and "closed". She listened to his heartbeat which was perfect and then measured my belly . . . . this was the shocking part of my visit . . . she said "You are measuring a little big" No big deal I thought, I've been consistantly measuring 3 days ahead so when I asked I was a bit shocked at her answer . . . I was measuring at 32 weeks! UMMM EXCUSE ME? That is almost 3 weeks ahead! My next appt is Sept 4th and we will see what happens then. She did say she was very pleased with my weight gain. I've gained 8lbs total so far.

After my appt we went back to school shopping. Oh the joy! Shopping with an almost teen being prego is not my idea of fun! I'm not a "big" mall shopper anyways, unless I know what I am going for, apparently my kid did not get it from me.

From there we met up with Steve and Loa for dinner at BJ's and I was able to enjoy my PIZOOKIE! Yummy! If you don't have a clue what I am talking about its basically a warm chocolate chunk cookie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Simple, maybe, but oh so delicious!!!

After dinner it was finally time to head back home. I couldn't have been happier, seeing that we left the house around 10am and it was now almost 8pm! My tootsies were HURTING! When we got home I played the dvd of the ultrasound for Steve and Loa, who I'm pretty sure both thought it was strange. THEN I got to open up my birthday present . . . a Nikon SLR D60! WOOHOO Just in time for Pokey's arrival!!! SO VERY VERY VERY COOL!!!!! Needless to say it was a FANTASTIC birthday!

As of today I have exactly 1 month left in the office. It can not come fast enough! I am miserable with swollen and tired tootsies and pretty much hate anything I put on. Of course this heat is not helping.
